About this place
Set along Megurohoncho, Sumibi Kushiyaki Masa is a welcoming neighborhood izakaya centered on charcoal-grilled skewers and small plates. The menu features familiar cuts such as kashira (pork temple), hatsu (heart), and harami (skirt), alongside an extensive selection of pork offal specialties like hatsumoto (aorta), nodobotoke (throat cartilage), and gatsu-shin (thick-cut stomach), all picking up a fragrant char from the coals. Chicken skewers including negima (chicken and scallion), tsukune (chicken meatball), and cartilage tsukune are also available, alongside wrapped skewers such as tomato rolled in pork belly and meat-stuffed bell peppers, making it easy to order stick by stick.
While waiting for skewers to come off the grill, ordering meat sashimi is a satisfying prelude: kobukuro sashi (pork uterus sashimi), hatsu sashi (heart sashimi), mino (tripe), and gatsu (pork stomach), as well as three- or four-variety sashimi platters. Thoughtful appetizers like seared beef tongue with grated daikon and ponzu or seared beef heart tataki also keep pace nicely with a chilled draft beer or Hoppy in black or white varieties. The sake and shochu lists are similarly well rounded, giving guests plenty to sip on as the meal unfolds.
Seating includes a counter and tables toward the back, accommodating everything from a solo drink after work to group gatherings. Once the grilled skewers are finished, hearty finales such as charred yaki-onigiri, chicken soup, or a yakitori rice bowl bring the meal to a satisfying close.
